A couple of weeks before St. Patrick's Day Kaylin started talking about a trap. Come to find out the kids at school were making traps in hopes of trying to capture a leprechaun. The teachers were preparing for a visit. The leprechaun came early to school (on Friday) since St. Patrick's day was on Saturday. When the kids got to class they found green bits of evidence and all of their chairs overturned. They even caught a leprechaun's doll in a mouse trap. Some sad leprechaun had to leave his doll behind.
So - with this knowledge - Kaylin was insistent that we make a trap at home to try to catch a leprechaun (who was sure come to our house the next day).
Here is her trap: The idea is fairly simple. There is some "gold" in the bottom of the milk carton to entice the little guy. He climbs the ladder, falls or jumps in (extra cushion to soften his landing) and then he is trapped - unable to climb the smooth walls to get himself out.
I debated in my mind whether or not a leprechaun should "visit". Knowing that if he did - he would likely have to visit every year. I wasn't sure this was a new venture I wanted to encourage. However, James was totally into it. So - yes - a fiesty little leprechaun did visit and he did, indeed, make quite the mess. As you can see - even the couch got overturned. There was green goo evidence on the little ladder and inside the carton but somehow he managed to get out. (He must have had a helper.) He even left us a message on our chalk board.

Yes - I admit - I had my reservations about setting this kind of precedent but when Kaylin came out of her room and made the discovery. IT WAS PRICELESS! The level of excitement in her face and in her voice made the whole thing worth it. I only wish I had a video of it. Who knew leprechauns were so much fun?
