Kaylinisms 11

The other night Kaylin participated in a "Music and P.E. Showcase" for Kindergarten through 2nd grade. We weren't sure what to expect since there really wasn't much notice or details given. What I'm about to describe probably won't come across as all that funny. It's one of those "you had to be there" moments. We thought it was hysterical. I wanted to write it down so we wouldn't forget how much of a rule follower (and keen observer) our daughter is.

Imagine the scene: The gymnasium floor is filled with all the kids (kinder through 2nd) standing in rows facing the flag. Their hands are on their hearts as they are clearly about to say the Pledge of Allegiance. The audience (the parents and family packing the bleachers) are asked to stand as well. We stand but James is texting on his phone. I say to him that he'd better be careful because if Kaylin sees him, she will let him know he needs to put his hand on his heart. At that moment we both look at her and she is mouthing something to him. And I'm a little confused because her words don't seem to be about the placement of his hand. James mouths back "What?" She repeats herself (slightly frustrated and choosing to demonstrate with hand motions). In an instant, we both get it. Kaylin, with ever so much determination, directs her Daddy to: "TAKE OFF YOUR HAT!"

In the midst of all the chaos, and the nerves of performing, our very observant daughter noticed that her dad was probably the only guy on the bleachers who hadn't yet removed his hat. Nothing like being called out by your six year old.

It was a fun show. She had a great time. Kaylin has come a long way since her preschool performances. She uses to stand there frozen and rub her eyes for the entire show. Now she fully engages herself and enjoys the fun. We are very proud of our rule follower.
